I guess everyone can relate to the fact that for every good anime series that is out there, there is always a crappy counterpart as well. A series that you want to stop watching altogether, but still continue with anyway because you at least want to see how it ends. I usually watch Animeseries two at a time (though recently that has expanded to at least five or six simultaneously). At the same time that I was watching the beautiful series Yuri on Ice, I was watching this one as well. To say these series could not be more different from each other, is probably an understatement. But not only in terms of story, but also in terms of quality. Because wow, this series was seriously bad, even though it also had it’s moments. But let’s first see what is going on in this anime, before I start tearing it down.
In Hundred it’s that time again where the Earth is besieged by giant monsters, and a handful of brave souls have to counter the beasts in order to save the world. The monsters in this anime are called Savages. Nobody quite knows where they came from, but it is enough to know that they appeared out of nowhere and started laying waste to the Earth. But, oh joy of joys, there is a weapon that can counter these mysterious beings known as Hundred. This weapon is wielded by the so called Slayers, specialised men and women who are able to use the Hundred in a variety of ways. Hayato Kisaragi is one of the newest recruits that has enrolled in the marine academy ship Little Garden. But as everyone will soon find out, he is no ordinary recruit. And just who is his strange roommate Emile Crossford that seems to know him from somewhere? All these mysteries and more will be solved, well at least if Hayato can survive a duel that he has just been challenged to by the most powerful Slayer onboard: Claire Harvey. With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, the lives of these three entirely different characters will soon be threatened like never before….
Ooohhhh…..this sounds exciting doesn’t it? Mysterious weapons, cool monsters, interesting characters…..erm, wait that last one isn’t correct, and I will soon get to that. In case you haven’t yet noticed this has got to be one of the most sarcastic reviews that I have written since starting this blog. Because quite honestly I can’t believe how the creators of this series have managed to turn this pretty cool concept into a such a total mess. Trust me on this, there are some things that I really did like. The weapon, Hundred, for instance is seriously awesome. Each Slayer wields the weapon in a different way, and as such it can turn into all kinds of different forms. Huge energy weapons, chains, even entire armours are all things Hundred is able to change into. Some of the fights between the Savages and Slayers are very cool to watch, and even the animationstyle is not bad either.
Where this series fails however is in it’s characters and the very immature boobjokes, that seem to be a part of pretty much every single episode. Yes you read that correctly: boobjokes. Jokes about boobs, to turn it around. In almost every episode we see main character Hayato accidentally fall over a woman and grab her breasts. If this would happen a single time, I could overlook it. But as this became a trademark of the series it quickly became very annoying to say the least. In one of the later episodes, we even spent about 5 minutes of an episode where Hayato is being urged by other girls to touch someone’s boobs. Seriously….what the f….no let’s not use that language here. The characters themselves also are almost complete airheads, with maybe the exception of Emile Crossford the only character that at least had somewhat interesting traits.
To say that this series was a major disappointment, is putting it mildly. And it really is a shame, because the final 2 episodes of the series showed a glimmer of what the series could have been. But that was simply too little, too late. With some cool concepts, and a story that even though not very original, wasn’t overly bad either, this animeseries definitely could have been very good. Because of the shallow characters, and very childish pranks this series apparently found more important to showcase, we are unfortunately left with a very bad animeseries. And one that I think is best avoided no matter how much you like giant aliens crushing puny humans. Well, luckily I am already investing my time in two new animeseries that so far are well worth it. Rest assured that reviews for these will follow, but the titles for these I will keep secret for now. Hey, there has to be a little mystery at some point right? Meanwhile, you can enjoy this gem of a series. (Ahem)
I give Hundred a 3 out of 10 score.
I think this is the first sarcastic review, and the lowest rated review I’ve seen you give! I actually watched the first episode of this when it was being simulcasted and it has been on perpetual hold ever since. I know, you’ll tell me it’s not worth the time and effort to finish it. But, unfortunately I cannot find it in me to drop a show. I will (eventually) see it to the end. LOL.
Thanks for sharing this review! I know what kind of misery awaits me now.

Haha….no I am not going to tell you that, since I can’t do that either 😊 No matter how bad a series eventually seems to get, I can never seem to drop it either 😂 But yes, this one was especially bad lol. So…all I can say is, there is no need to rush to finish this one 😂 And thank you: sarcasm definitely was my intention for this post, so I am glad it came out right lol 😊

Who cares about quality when you can have boob-grabs 😐
Yeah, no.
I knew of this show’s reputation as a trainwreck so I was surprised to see it on this list. Guess you also fall victim to shitty series. My condolences, buddy. Really though, the premise itself sounds pretty cool but that alone isn’t worth much without good execution.

Haha…that opening line: seriously funny 😂 Yep, even I can fall victim to these kind of shows. I was luren by the interesting premise for the series, but the first episode should have at least given me a hint of the bad things that were about to take place. But….I can never drop a show for some reason. Same as Heyitszel said in her comment. But them again, I had the opportunity to write one of my first sarcastic reviews, which was also fun for a change. See? Something positive came out of this after all lol 😂

That’s what I tell myself about Diabolik Lovers. Anything that helps us sleep at night, right?

Lol, I guess you are right about that 😊 Yes…I am back from Animecon in case you are wondering 😀I’ve got a lot of catching up to do, so it will take me a while to read every post that I have missed. But I am determined 😂

Then you’re a braver man than I. When I end up being away from blogging for a while, I just tend to skip posts in that time because my e-mail is flooded already welp.
Ahem.
Good luck! 😀

And forgot to say this first – hope you had fun at the con!

Haha…well….I just try to keep up as best I can. Just came across your first post that I missed: Log Horizon. Will start reading it after posting this comment 😊
As for the con, it was seriously awesome. I will be doing a post on it for sure. Ps…it was not very kind on my wallet lol 😂😂

Looking forward to it 😀 And R.I.P, money, you were well spent.

I did try this but didn’t get very far. Seems like that was probably the better option. Part of me wanted to get back to this series because, as you said, it had some good ideas. Too bad about the characters and execution.

Well, that is what is the real shame about this one. Underneath it all, lie some pretty good ideas, and as mentioned the final two episodes kind of show what the series could have been, if the execution for it would have been better. Oh well, unfortunately it is what it is. As I mentioned to D’s comment, at least I got a sarcastic review out of it, so there is that 😂

I can’t believe I watched this whole series. It was so bad and I was hoping it may get better but it just kept going downhill. Omg this needs to be locked up somewhere haha

Haha…that was the same with me. For some weird reason I kept watching, but probably also because I never drop a series, and I wanted to see how it would end. But you are so right, this really needs to be locked up, or buried deep under the ground, that might also be a good option 😂

I remember looking at this series not too long ago and trying to decide if I wanted to give it a shot. Definitely not going to invest in it now lol. Also this was a great review!

Haha, thank you 😊 No, everybody experiences series differently, that is for sure, but seeing the responses to this post from people who have also seen this, I think this is definitely not worth investing time in 😊

This shows is just terrible XDD. The hilarious bit for me…the MC getting kissed by a trap XDD. Everytime I hear the OP when the male singer comes on…I’m thinking is he shaking his shoulders to the rhythm of the song. He sounds like he’s really in to it. The only character that I liked is Liddy. Next one…this

Haha lol 😂😂😂 So true, this series is absolutely horrible 😂😂 But oh well, I guess they can’t be all good, and luckily I am currently watching two series that are very good 😀 The series provided in the link, looks interesting. Have you seen it yet?

I have been away for a few days (hospital visits are never a joy) but it was great return to read such a dry humoured post on not a worthy viewable anime. I have found a few like these on Crunchyroll which does make it seem exciting at first but it ends up being very slapstick or dramatic with little substance to a plot.
The boob reference can indeed be related to the.. may I say inflated and rather undesired anime also of the same material called Highschool of the Dead which i stopped watching after the first few episodes. Sometimes it’s just ‘that bad’.

Sorry to hear about your hospital visits, those are definitely never any fun. I hope you are doing allright (in case you are wondering I am still going to answer your email, but in between being sick and visiting Animecon, and posting some overdue reviews on my blog I just haven’t had the time yet😊).
Lol, yes this was my most sarcastic review to date, but this series deserved it. At least with Highschool of the Dead there was some fun to be had with the zombiekillings. And the series never pretended to be anything different honestly 😂 But this was both undesired and a horrible show at the same time. Oh well….win some, lose some I guess 😊

That’s perfectly fine. I knew you were ill for awhile as I have been away for similar reasons and things can get overwhelming I know, when work piles on whilst you try to climb back on top of it all again..so it’s understandable. Take your time. 🙂 I’m glad to hear you got to go to the convention. I hope you had a great time there. I think I can sense when I’ll like a show, my strange method is watching three episodes to determine if it’s one for moi. As you rightly put it, there’s always a few bad ones to get past to get to the goods. 🙂

Thank you for your understanding, and you can expect a reply in the coming two days (I luckily have two days off from work in order to get some rest after the convention). And I can tell you it was awesome. I hope to do a post for it tomorrow 😊 I have seen some great movies and Animeseries, and bought way too much stuff lol 😂😂 It was great fun though 😊

Good thing there are bad ones around. All movies can’t all be good. Thanks for weaving out the bad ones for all of us 🙂 I have signed up for Netflix again this weekend. I’m surprised there’s a big selection of anime movies. Which one do you like best on there?

Haha, yeah for every good movie, there usually is a bad one as well. Great that you have Netflix back again 😊 I do know that Netflix different for each region, so you might not have all the content that I have and vice versa. I can give you a few recommendations though and you can see if they are on there 😊
Movies: Akira (classic anime that is still an absolute joy to watch), Harlock: Space Pirate,(beautifully animated film), Blame! (Even though it has it’s flaws, there are some great scenes in it)
Tv series: Deathnote (truly great anime with a terrific story), Knights of Sidonia (takes a bit to get in to, and also has some flaws, but also has a lot of things it does right), Cowboy Bebop ( a terrific and highly enjoyable Animeseries). These are based on the selection of anime in my country. If there are some other Animeseries or movies that are on your Netflix, let me know. I am in no means an expert, but perhaps I know the series or movie and I can tell if it’s good or bad 😊 Hope this helps 😀

Watch six shows simultaneously? Blimey. I struggle to find the time to watch just one.
I think I’ll give this series a miss. Sadly this isn’t the only cool sounding anime that ends up flopping due to excessive boob jokes.

Lol…well…that was then, this is now: I’m happy to even be able to finish even one show at the moment, let alone six. I sooo wish there were more hours in a day (or a clone of myself that could deal with everything that is a Major drag lol).
As for this series, it truly was a missed opportunity. It really could have been a fun watch, but was instead turned into something really stupid and immature 😕
