The Blog Evolution Tag

Hello everyone! So, it’s time for another tag. But this one is a bit different than usual. Because it was created by none other than the awesome Karandi James and ……me! Yes people we have a new and original tag for you, that we both hope everyone is going to enjoy. It’s also a bit more unique, at least we think so, because as far as we know this is the first collab tag. So how did this tag come about, and what exactly is The Blog Evolution Tag? Karandi and I have been blogging for roughly the same amount of time, and as we so often do, we were exchanging comments on a post and started talking about blogging. More specifically about the fact that over the years our blogs, and writing styles changed (hopefully for the better! 😅). We also said it might be fun to one day revisit some of our old posts and compare them to what we are doing now. And then an idea started forming about how we might turn this into a tag and let a fellow blogger be the judge of what exactly changed. And so, we now proudly present: The Blog Evolution Tag! Let’s dive into the rules, and then of course Karandi and myself are going to present the first post!

The Rules

Better obey these rules….or else……!!!
1. Pick a partner with whom you want to this tag (yes, as mentioned this is going to be a collaboration tag!)
2. Select a post from the early days of your blog (preferably the very first post you ever wrote)
3. Select a post from the current days of your blog
4. Send your selections to your partner and ask him/her the three questions below and also answer them yourself as well.
a. What did you like about each post?
b. What do you think has changed the most?
c. What do you think might change in the future?
5. Both of you then write a post for the two old/new posts of your own blog, but you include the answers your partner gave you
6. Link back to the original post of the creators of this tag: Karandi & Raistlin
7. Try to publish your tag post around the same time your partner does and include The Blog Evolution Logo
8. Select 3 people to also get tagged (only select the person you want to tag not his/her partner).

The Questions:

A. The Old Post: What I liked about it

The Old Post, my first one ever written: D-day a Korean Drama Series

Michel’s answer: Well, this is actually the first post that I have written when my blog started. It’s for a Korean drama series call D-Day. At the time I wrote this one, I really did not have a clue what I was doing. I had no real plan for my blog, and I just wrote it purely on my own feelings for this series. And I guess that is pretty much what I like about this post: it is a quite enthusiastic post and at least get’s across the fact that it’s a show that I truly enjoyed watching.

Karandi’s answer: This tag is great, I got to read a post from Raistlin that I’d never seen before. This post has Raistlin’s characteristic review structure already kind of worked out where we get a bit of an overview about the film/show in question and then we get into some more specific aspects. I loved how much enthusiasm Raistlin had for this series, though it makes sense given it is the first thing he decided to review on his blog. It seems unlikely you would start a blog to review something you hated. I really enjoy how Raistlin takes the readers with him through this series and its positives. He doesn’t ignore the fact that there are some issues, but he doesn’t linger on them either. Basically he makes you feel like he really wanted you to enjoy reading about something he enjoyed.

A. The New Post: What I liked about it

The New Post, Tunnel another Korean drama series (you know I like those right?)

Michel’s answer: By pure chance this was also a post for a Korean drama, but one that was written almost two years after the old post. What I liked for this one, was the first paragraph. I usually like to start my posts with a small tale that in some way connects to whatever I am reviewing, and I liked the fact that this one really set a bit of creepy tone. Of course I was totally having fun here, and I thought it turned out quite well.

Karandi’s answer: Another post I actually missed from Raistlin and I’m glad this tag gave me the chance to read it. While I said in the old post that Raistlin’s characteristic review structure was already there, reading the new post immediately after made me realise that while the same outline is there, Raistlin has indeed evolved a lot in the time between these two posts. The overview in the beginning is more open about the genre and themes and works to engage the reader in a general way before narrowing the focus down to the series being reviewed. While there is still a lot of enthusiasm, there’s now a lot more explanation and reasoning for the enthusiasm which helps not just make the reader feel that Raistlin liked something but makes us really want to see it too because it sounds great. There’s a generally more polished tone and confidence in the writing and it was absolutely great to read.

B. What do you think has changed the most?

Changes are….hopefully for the better!

Michel’s answer: When I compare the two posts I think the thing that really changed the most is the structure. The first post kind of went all over the place (not to mention the lack of pictures, and the many typos lol), but the newer one has a starting point, middle and end. And the writing style has pretty much improved too, becoming a little bit more engaging and not only dealing with the series itself.

Karandi’s answer: I think Raistlin has found a balance between being a viewer and being a reviewer. He’s finding ways to share his love of something as a fan but to explain it in a way that is more convincing to the reader that they might also find something to enjoy. I also felt there was a bit more confidence behind his statements in the newer post. That said, what hasn’t changed is Raistlin’s positive and generous nature giving credit to those who worked hard on the series either on screen or behind it. Raistlin is always incredibly respectful to the actors and crew and I find that an incredibly endearing trait of his as a reviewer.

C. What do you think might change in the future?

Okay..of course I totally had to add a time machine from Stein’s Gate…….

Michel’s answer: I want to experiment more with trying out different styles for my posts. Right now I usually have a pretty basic structure that I am happy with, but I also want to try different styles as well and just experiment. So I think that my writing style, just as it did in this last post might change again in the future. Hopefully of course for the better, but I guess I will let my readers be the judge of that!

Karandi’s answer: I’m not sure if anything needs to change. Raistlin’s posts are always on point, full of enthusiasm, and give enough detail to get an idea of what the film, series, anime, whatever is about without giving too much away. He has a great voice and visiting his blog really is like having a conversation with an old friend about something you both enjoy. Though, if these two posts are anything to go by, I think Raistlin will continue to develop confidence as a reviewer and in his opinion and I also feel he might continue to work on ensuring he is giving enough examples and evidence to justify his view without crossing into complete spoiler territory. That said, I really love Raistlin’s blog as it is.

And tagging:

Oh come on, ofcourse I had to include a Pokemon picture for this last section!!

Well, the three people that I want to tag for this one can be found below. As mentioned above, you are free to choose anyone who you would like to be your partner. Of course there is no pressure in doing this one, but as this is a new tag, Karandi and I certainly hope you find this interesting enough to pass this tag on to others as well. And of course thank you in advance if you want to do this. You do know you are all awesome right? So…without further ado, I nominate:

Thank you all for reading. I hope you enjoyed this tag, and don’t forget to check out Karandi’s post for this which you can find here. Let me know what you thought of this one in the comments section below! See you around!

Build a Harem tag!

There are certain times in my life when I feel like a total noob (erm what am I saying, there are a lot of times when I feel like this). In the world of anime people are probably surprised to learn how many different genres there are within that fantastic medium. And this inspires a lot of anime bloggers out there to create some awesome tags. Take the wonderful Cactus Matt from Anime Q and A for instance. He created the “Build a Harem” tag. Now what the heck is that I can hear you ask. Erm…yes…erm…that was my question as well. And it got worse when I also got nominated for it by LinaMerlin and Arthifis. Really? I smell a conspiracy here. And just after I published this, I found out that I had been nominated 40 minutes earlier by The Otaku Judge  as well so yeah conspiracy 🙂 But I truly thank you guys and girl, for nominating me (erm…I think). I have to my knowledge never seen an Harem anime, so I really had to do some research to find out what this all meant.

Just let the man explain already!!!

It turns out to be rather straightforward actually. A central character is surrounded by three or more male or female characters that are usually romantically attracted to that  character (really why doesn’t something like that happen in real life? Ahem…moving on). With that out of the way, now I had to do some research on the type of characters that are featured in these (wow, this almost feels like homework now lol). But I guess, I figured it out…well…at least I think I have (Naw…You are just seeing things, I’m totally not sweating here). So….as always: here are the:

Why are there always rules?? So boring!!
  1. Link back to the original post on Anime Q and A so they can check out everyone’s picks!
  2. Use the ‘Build A Harem’ logo somewhere in the post.
  3. Make sure to mention the person who nominated you too!
  4. Pick 5 Anime Characters (any show & any gender) that would be in your ideal harem if you were the main character of a harem anime, explain a little bit as to why they are your picks (if you want).
  5. Make sure each character you pick falls into some of the following harem character types: Childhood friend, tom boy/girl, genki girl/boy, loli/shota, trap, tsundere, yandere, kuudere, dandere, etc. (If there’s a character you’ve picked that doesn’t specifically fall into one of these types or falls into multiple types that’s fine too!)
  6. Nominate 5 people to participate in this tag!

1. The childhood friend-Naho Takamiya from Orange

Me??? Really???

So many people hated this character. Mainly because of the fact that she seemed to really make stupid choices or what seemed very odd reactions to the guy she was in love with. I didn’t hate her at all though. In fact I could totally relate to her, because she was the female version of me. When I am in love I tend to do stupid things, and totally freeze up when I get to talk to the girl I love (or in other words I am always afraid to let my true feelings out). So yeah…childhood friend for sure, as I think we would get along very well.

2. The Tomboy Girl-Motoki Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell

How dare you call me a tomboy!!

Hmm, this was a tough one. And the Major (still my alltime favorite anime character, and she probably will be right up until I die) might even seem an odd choice for this category. When you look up the definition of a tomboy on Google (and Lina did this research as well, she is always very determined), there are so many definitions for that exact word. Still I think Motoko Kusanagi could definitely fill this slot. The way she acts, and the things she does more than qualify as masculine, even though she is still a hot as hell woman. So…yeah…I’m sticking with the Major for this one.

3. The Tsundure-Asuna Yuuki from Sword Art Online

Is it hot in here? Or is that just me?

This one I really had to look up, as I had never heard of this word. Tsundure is apparently a character who is initially very cold, or hostile towards someone, until eventually warming up. For this I had only one choice: Asuna. When she first met Kirito, I think she redefined the word cold. And we all know of course how that eventually ended. I would truly dread meeting her when she was first like this, and would probably either run away, or try to grovel before her. (Probably the last, because really…just look at her). So for that last reason alone…she just had to be in my harem.

4. The Kuudure-Touka Kirishima from Tokyo Ghoul

Yes…I’m giving you ” the stare”…….

So…ofcourse I totally knew what this one meant. You believe me right? Erm….not that convincing am I? Okay I guess you all knew it but apparently this is a character that seems very cold and indifferent, but actually is very caring. Having watched the first two seasons of Tokyo Ghoul (wait…what? You did that? Why on Earth did you not review it Raistlin??!!!), I can only think of Touka for this one. I instantly fell in love with her when she first shows up. I loved her cool demeanor, total badassery, but also the depth she had. She just had to be added….obviously.

5. The Yandere-Lum from Urusei Yatsura

Aww….she is so cute….just wait till you get to know her though.

Aww….last one already?? Yup…and I decided to go with the Yandere type. I got you covered: it’s a character that is totally romantically obsessed by someone to the point of using violent means to get them in their arms. And that is Lum all over. This tigerstriped bikini clad beauty is probably not known by many of you as she is featured in an anime series that ran in the 80’s. She looks gorgeous doesn’t she? Don’t let this alien princess fool you though…she will use any means necessary to get her darling (that is what she calls the poor boy that is the object of her affection), even using electrocution. Oh well…I would not mind being chased by her…not at all….

I choose…..you!!!

Honestly this tag has gotten so big, that I have kind of lost track who has already been tagged, so if you already got nominated for this one, feel free to ignore it. And if you haven’t and don’t want to do this one, I totally understand as well. My nominees are….

1. Shokamoka (Well I know that you have already been nominated, but I just want to let you know in this way that I miss seeing you here)

2. Flowangelic (Yup, this just had to be done)

3.Lynlynsays (Seeing as you recently featured a post on a reverse harem and I simply love your blog)

4. Cain.S.Latrani (Well…do I really need to explain? I just think you are awesome, and I know for a fact that you would probably make a seriously funny post for this one)

5. Pete Davison (Because I think this tag has you written all over it, and your blog is incredible and more people need to discover it)

Have fun with it! And as I said no pressure at all to this. Now I leave you all with the Major….because, really…why not?

Sigh….he really is obsessed with me……

My Reasons Why

I don’t know how many blogs are currently a part of WordPress, but I would not be very surprised if that number is somewhere above a million in total. I think we all come across new blogs every day that look interesting, have topics that you like or just look pretty damn awesome. But, no matter which way you look at it, you can’t follow everyone. I have a dayjob that keeps me pretty occupied throughout the day, and as such I have about 5-6 hours of free time on weekdays. I love reading other people’s posts, and commenting on them, but I have currently reached my limit at the number of people I can follow. But, sometimes, you want to give yourself a slap on the forehead (or punch yourself in the face whatever works best for you), when you find out that you are not yet following a blog that you thought you were. For me that happened just before I headed of to Animecon. I was just checking through some older comments that I had missed during my hiatus, and found out that I had been tagged by Irina. (Don’t worry I will get to you after this). Reading through the post, I found out that the tag was created by Kimchisama.

This is me: trust me you will understand when you read the next paragraph.

She is someone who I have seen making regular comments and giving likes on my posts, as well as following me on Twitter. But…I wasn’t yet following her. Sigh…needless to say, after I found out I punched myself in the face (and ended up with a bloody nose), and finally hit that follow button on her blog. So, if you are reading this post now please accept my humble apologies for not following you sooner. And if you are someone who also had yet to discover/follow her blog do the same as me (that is hit the follow button, not the punching in the face part). So…what about Irina huh? What can I say about her that hasn’t already been said? How awesome she is? Well, you all already know that right? How supportive and incredibly strong a person she is? Naw, that’s also common knowledge. Maybe her being one of the most important people in the anime blogging community? Sigh…I give up. Everything has been said already. Suffice it to say Irina is totally bad ass, and although she will probably deny everything I said here, she knows in her heart that I am right. So, in the small chance you are not following her either yet, also hit that follow button. Right…so…on with the tag!. What this all about?

Why are there always rules?

1. Mention the person who nominated you

Now Irina asked to mention Kimchisama

2. List 13 reasons why you keep going/living (This is borrowed from the book but I’m taking it the opposite direction).

Well, see below if I managed to make it to 13 reasons.

3. Nominate 10 or more people to give their reasons why.

Whew…10 huh? Well…I will give it a try.

4. Use the picture that I created in your post. I’m sorry that I’m a bit bad a making these things… But I tried 🙂

Now then, on to the most important part of this tag, here are my 13 reasons to get up every morning, and go on with this crazy thing we call life:

1. My parents.

I am an only child, and come from a very small family. In fact it’s so small, that it’s just me and my folks. I could not have been blessed with better parents then the ones I have. Always supportive, caring, and giving, they are a very constant factor in my life.

2. My friends

Who can live without friends? People who say that they can are lying through their teeth. Everyone needs friends in his or her life, no matter how hard you might deny that fact. I don’t have a huge group of friends, but the ones I do have (and you pretty much know who you all are), are the best ones you can ask for. Always there for me when I go through a rough time (and vice versa), I have never taken them for granted in any way.

You can never have enough friends right??

3. My blogging friends

Ever since I started this blog I have met people that have become an enormous and very important part of my life. Why mention these friends seperately? Because we might never meet in real life, but all the same they are just as wonderful as my normal friends (as far as we are all normal that is lol). Again, you all know who you are, but wow give yourself a big hug and a pat on the back, for the amount of kindness and love you have shown me is nothing short of amazing.

4. Movies

You probably did not see that one coming right? Seriously though, movies are very, very important to me. There is nothing better than to drift away for an hour or two in a different world in a movie theatre and forget all your troubles for a while. Movies, especially the good ones, can manage to lift my spirits when I am feeling down, or reach me on an emotional level in a way that almost nothing else can.

Just like you can never have enough friends, there is also no such such thing as too much anime.

5. Anime

I started my blog a little over two years ago. At that point I did not really know what I was doing and I just posted randomly not even really following any blogs. But then I came across Karandi’s blog, (and seriously if you don’t know who she is, where have you been all these years), and I loved everything about it. Moreover through her writing she managed to rekindle my love for anime, something I had stopped watching for almost 5-6 years. Right now anime is another big part of my life, and someting I can’t stop watching anymore.

6. My blog

Well, this one is very obvious isn’t it? During my unfortunate, but necessary hiatus, I really felt a weird emptiness in me. Blogging had become a routine and it was very strange not reading posts, placing comments, and writing new posts. I have always said this: blogging is a huge part of my life, and I can’t see a future where I would stop blogging altogether. It’s great to be back and speak to everyone again.

No these aren’t my books…it comes close though 😅😅

Just like movies, books especially the well written ones, allow you to escape for a while into another reality. It’s great to dive into a book that will have you on the edge of your seat, especially after a tough day.

8. My job

Having a job in this day and age is not as obvious as one might think. Finding a job that you enjoy is even tougher. Even though my job is always very busy, and there are certain days that I could live without it (last friday being one of them), I certainly don’t hate my job. As you spent a big chunk of your life in the workplace, it’s definitely important to have something that you can sink your teeth in and offers a challenge.

9. Winter season

Yes, everyone is gearing up for summer now, and relieved to finally see the cold weather being a thing of the past. But…I am not one of them. I love the winterseason. The dark, cold days where you come home, crank up the heat or curl up in bed whatever suits you best, and watch a nice movie or read a good book. Everything about that season is just very cosy, and that’s why I love it so much.

One day I will conquer my fear of flying and vist an Asian country.

10. Asian culture

As most of you that have been following my blog for a while now pretty much know, is that I simply love Asian culture. It’s a love that started for me when I was a child and continues to this day. Movies, anime, Korean dramas, it’s rich history, it’s customs: all those things have my interest and for me make it a culture that I highly respect and have a great fascination for.

11. Love

Well, I am still single. And have been for a long, long time (please don’t cry or pity me, absolutely not necessary). But I am a hopeless romantic at heart. Though I feel the clock ticking as I become older, I have not yet given up total hope in finding miss right. It might even be the biggest cliche, but it’s so true: love usually does bring happyness. (Though admittedly it has also brought me a lot of sadness, but that last thing only makes you feel more alive doesn’t it?)

Naw…this is totally not making me hungry…at all!

12. Desserts

The best thing about a meal? Desserts! I can’t get enough them. A meal for me is not complete when I don’t get some kind of dessert to close it off. Even at lunch I try to get a cup of tasty yogurt or pudding when I get a chance to. Really, what’s not to love about desserts right?

13. Games

I have always loved playing games. I don’t even care if I win (though of course that usually is even more fun if you manage to achieve a win), but playing the game is for me what’s most important. Whether it’s playing a solo game, or with some friends, the experience of a great boardgame is what always manages to put a smile on my face.

Who says you can’t have fun at boardgames??

And….over to you.

Here you go: the ten people that I nominate for this tag:

1. Kwenzqoatl

2. Karandi

3. The Things I’ve Seen

4. Biblionyan

5. Ya Boy Jack

6. Pete Davison

7. Scott

8. Kim

9. Dani

10. Didi

This is not a tag that’s for everyone, so really don’t feel any pressure or need to write a post for this one. Nor is there any rush (Lord knows I am really running behind on tag posts/award nominations).

Thanks for reading as always: see you at the next post!

Five Flaming Hotties (part 1)

If there is one thing that I find amazing about running my blog it is getting nominated for awards or particular tags. It is always an honor, but I must also admit that I am really, really running behind on writing these. So first I want to offer my apologies to everyone who has ever nominated me for an award or tagged me in some way, and I haven’t done a post for yet. Don’t think I don’t appreciate it, it is just simply me being lazy not having had enough time to post one yet. That said, I am going to try and put a dent in the backlog of these over the coming weeks, and to kick things off I am going to start with the Five Flaming Hotties tag. I actually got nominated for this one twice, but that offered me a unique opportunity as well. I’m going to be doing this one in two posts, one featuring Five Hotties from the world of movie and television, and the other one from Anime.

The Tags

The first tag I received from Vinnieh who is just an amazing guy. He actually runs two blogs (seriously where do you find the time for it 😂) one about movies and one that is a bit on the naughty side, lol. He is a terrific writer, with a knowledge about movies that I am often amazed at. But he is also a really kind person, who always responds to your comments in amazing ways. It has really been a blast following along with his blog and exchanging comments with him. So Vinnieh my friend, thanks for tagging me for this one.

The second tag I recieved from The Otaku Judge. You know how you sometimes want to slap yourself on the head for not discovering a blog sooner? This is one of them. For almost two months now we have been exchanging thoughts over different kinds of things, ranging from anime to movies, and it has been a blast. Another person who has just been a joy to talk to, as well as becoming someone who always provides interesting and often funny comments to my posts. Hopefully this will continue for many more years. So thank you very much as well.

Needless to say follow both of them, as if that hasn’t become clear yet 😂

The rules:

1. Mention the name of the blog you were tagged by, as well as the creators of this game Realweegiemidget Reviews and Thoughts All Sorts  to all blogs involved and including the picture above.

2. List five of your greatest hotties from TV and/or film, i.e. crushes/objects of your affection, including musicians or sports stars too.

3. Tell us how you were introduced to them and why you like them/what appeals.

4. Add some appealing pictures.

5. Tag seven bloggers for their Five Flaming Hotties.

6. Post the rules.

The Five Hotties

5. Morena Baccarin

I was first introduced to the beautiful Morena Baccarin in the tv series Firefly. This shortlived and sadly cancelled tv series  was a unique blend of Western abd Science Fiction. Morena has since then grown into a well known figure in many tv series including Homeland, the re-imagined V and Gotham. Her natural charm and charisma make her an absolute stunning woman, especially when she puts on her wonderful smile. So to not include her on this list would be a sin.

4. Alanna Masterson

This actress is probably not recognised by many of you, unless, like me you are a massive Walking Dead fan. Alanna plays the role of the wonderful Tara. When we first meet her, she is actually on the side of the evil Governor. Luckily she soon recognised her mistake and joins Rick’s group. She has become a series regular, and she certainly is one of my favorite characters. A true natural beauty.

3. Haley Atwell

This British actress most of you will probably recognise as Agent Carter from Captain America. I had seen her in other shows and movies as well however, but really started noticing her in the television series that was made for the beloved Marvel Character. She is quite charming, but also a very strong woman, that can definitely hold her own.

2. Eliza Dushku

If there is one woman that redefines the words Flaming Hottie, it is Eliza Dushku. I had a major crush on her when she starred as the Dark Slayer Faith in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She has made numerous other appearances in such tv shows as Dollhouse, Angel and Banshee, but has never really broken through with her career. A true shame as she is a wonderful actress, with a stunning beauty.

1. Summer Glau

My number one though has got to be Summer Glau. Also someone that I have been following since Firefly she is absolutely incredible in every sense of the word. Sadly though, she had appeared in so many tv series that got cancelled that people have started to think she is cursed. My favorite role from her has got to be in The Sarah Connor Chronicles, where she played the part of Cameron, the Terminator that was assigned to protect John. A bad ass role, that really suited her.

My nominations

This is always the difficult part, I can only choose 7 people to tag for this, but luckily, since I got nominated twice I can do this two times. Before this becomes a thing only guys can do, I have chosen four female bloggers, and three males. In no way should you feel any obligation to do this one though, so feel free to write a post for it or not: no pressure! So here they are in no particular order:

Mr. Bobinsky
