It’s safe to say that a lot of you have heard by now that Disney is going to start their own streaming service. Disney+ as it’s being calles is expected to become a very fierce competitor to it’s biggest rival Netflix. It’s launching in November and for a change my country, The Netherlands, is going to be one of the very first ones to gain access to it. I do say for a change because usually we get all the cool stuff last. Why exactly is Disney+ cool? That is a good question. When I first heard of the project I pretty much ignored it. Okay so they offer a big portion of the extensive Disney library of movies but well I don’t have a lot of interest in that personally. I have either seen quite a lot of them already, or own them on dvd. But things quickly became a whole lot more interesting. Disney+ is also going to get a couple of cool all new Marvel television series. Loki, The Falcon and The Wintersoldier, Wanda/Vision, and as it was announced yesterday Moonknight, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel are all getting their own shows. While some of you might not be very familiar with a couple of those names, suffice it to say that for many comic book lovers those characters make their hearts beat faster. And as they have also recently acquired Fox, customers can also expect to be able to watch a lot of Fox television shows as well. So, that’s quite a lot on offer.

Where does it end though? How many streaming services can one handle? I myself have subscriptions for Netflix, Crunchryroll (let’s just call that Netflix for anime) and Viki (an Asian television subscription service). I already have way too little time on my hands already, not to mention an extensive amount of dvd’s I still have to watch and you can see how that can become a (luxury) problem. So, in the long run I decided not to go for it. But then of course they had to throw the Star Wars card into the mix. For the first time in the history of the franchise, Disney is developing live action television series set into the Star Wars universe. Diego Luna is set to reprise his role as the rebel Cassian Andor in a prequel series for Rogue One. There are also rumors that Ewan McGregor is in talks for a live action Obi-Wan Kenobi television series. (Update: It was just confirmed by Matt that this is now going to be an official series!) However the first series that will start streaming on Disney+ on the 12th of November is called The Mandalorian. This show is set in the times right after the fall of the Empire and before the rise of the First Order. Or, to make it easier for you it’s a follow up to Return of the Jedi, but set before the events of The Force Awakens. Yesterday the first official trailer dropped for it, and let’s take a look at that first:

Okay, I’m not going to lie here, I think this entire trailer looks seriously bad ass, if you will excuse my foul language. It has this whole lone gun man kind of western feel to it, but even more importantly this just feels like Star Wars. I love the entire vibe and atmosphere that is created here and the music that accompanies this trailer is awesome. We also have a stellar cast containing the likes of Carl Weathers, Nick Nolte, Gina Carano and Pedro Pascal who plays the titular hero of this show. To misquote Han Solo here: “ I have a good feeling about all this”. But of course all feelings set aside, after The Last Jedi I have become very cautious about pretty much anything that Disney does with Star Wars. So even though this all looks very cool, it is just a trailer. Time will tell if this show is as good as it looks. We don’t have to wait long for it though to get an answer to that and you can be sure I will have a review for you on this blog once I have seen it. So does this mean I am going to get a subscription for Disney+ in November? Well…erm…I…erm…Oh who I am I kidding! Shut up and take my money already Disney. Sigh….Right over to you! What did you think of the trailer? Will you be lured by the Disney+ streaming channel? Let’s chat in the comments section! Everyone have a great weekend!
