It’s safe to say that a lot of you have heard by now that Disney is going to start their own streaming service. Disney+ as it’s being calles is expected to become a very fierce competitor to it’s biggest rival Netflix. It’s launching in November and for a change my country, The Netherlands, is going to be one of the very first ones to gain access to it. I do say for a change because usually we get all the cool stuff last. Why exactly is Disney+ cool? That is a good question. When I first heard of the project I pretty much ignored it. Okay so they offer a big portion of the extensive Disney library of movies but well I don’t have a lot of interest in that personally. I have either seen quite a lot of them already, or own them on dvd. But things quickly became a whole lot more interesting. Disney+ is also going to get a couple of cool all new Marvel television series. Loki, The Falcon and The Wintersoldier, Wanda/Vision, and as it was announced yesterday Moonknight, She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel are all getting their own shows. While some of you might not be very familiar with a couple of those names, suffice it to say that for many comic book lovers those characters make their hearts beat faster. And as they have also recently acquired Fox, customers can also expect to be able to watch a lot of Fox television shows as well. So, that’s quite a lot on offer.
Where does it end though? How many streaming services can one handle? I myself have subscriptions for Netflix, Crunchryroll (let’s just call that Netflix for anime) and Viki (an Asian television subscription service). I already have way too little time on my hands already, not to mention an extensive amount of dvd’s I still have to watch and you can see how that can become a (luxury) problem. So, in the long run I decided not to go for it. But then of course they had to throw the Star Wars card into the mix. For the first time in the history of the franchise, Disney is developing live action television series set into the Star Wars universe. Diego Luna is set to reprise his role as the rebel Cassian Andor in a prequel series for Rogue One. There are also rumors that Ewan McGregor is in talks for a live action Obi-Wan Kenobi television series. (Update: It was just confirmed by Matt that this is now going to be an official series!) However the first series that will start streaming on Disney+ on the 12th of November is called The Mandalorian. This show is set in the times right after the fall of the Empire and before the rise of the First Order. Or, to make it easier for you it’s a follow up to Return of the Jedi, but set before the events of The Force Awakens. Yesterday the first official trailer dropped for it, and let’s take a look at that first:
Okay, I’m not going to lie here, I think this entire trailer looks seriously bad ass, if you will excuse my foul language. It has this whole lone gun man kind of western feel to it, but even more importantly this just feels like Star Wars. I love the entire vibe and atmosphere that is created here and the music that accompanies this trailer is awesome. We also have a stellar cast containing the likes of Carl Weathers, Nick Nolte, Gina Carano and Pedro Pascal who plays the titular hero of this show. To misquote Han Solo here: “ I have a good feeling about all this”. But of course all feelings set aside, after The Last Jedi I have become very cautious about pretty much anything that Disney does with Star Wars. So even though this all looks very cool, it is just a trailer. Time will tell if this show is as good as it looks. We don’t have to wait long for it though to get an answer to that and you can be sure I will have a review for you on this blog once I have seen it. So does this mean I am going to get a subscription for Disney+ in November? Well…erm…I…erm…Oh who I am I kidding! Shut up and take my money already Disney. Sigh….Right over to you! What did you think of the trailer? Will you be lured by the Disney+ streaming channel? Let’s chat in the comments section! Everyone have a great weekend!
I doubt this Disney channel has much appeal to me, though I do see that there is a growing market, hungry for things just like this. But as you say, where does it end? I already hardly use Netflix, and the other online service I subscribe to is mainly used for ‘catch-up’ services on main channels.
Then there is the fact that the main 4/5 channels here continue to pump out some very watchable and addictive dramas, like ‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Outlander’, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, and others, all free to watch.
Sadly, life is too short to watch everything! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Well, don’t know about that yet Pete. As I said, it will also have a lot of the Fox shows on offer, and there are some very good series like for instance 24 that will also appeal to you. But no idea exactly what the Fox content will be yet.
I agree though: I am going to have to make some decisions too. I am using Netflix together with my folks…but I might switch some months between Viki and Disney+. The good thing is that usually you can cancel these things every month, so in that way you can keep it balanced 😊
We here in Holland unfortunately don’t have many channels that offer high quality shows for free. But that said, there is only so much things one can watch. After seeing this trailer though, I will definitely get it at least to see this one, and after that we’ll see how it goes and what more they will offer 😊😊

Looks like Star Wars so far, though I was convinced Bobba Fett was the last Mandalorian?
The Last Jedi shattered star wars for me as well, didn’t dislike Solo as much as many people did bit some of the magic had died for me.
I hope this will be good, but I will probaly wait a few disney series reviews before spending my money on disney + , the downside of a subscription service would be that I am not going to pay for just one good show… even when compared to a movie you get a lot more viewtime for your buck .

Yeah, me too…but of course they will have some kind of story about who this guy is prepared, and why apperently he is now the last Mandalorian🤔🤔
I honestly quite liked Solo myself, but true a bit of the magic of Star Wars was gone from me too. It’s now been two years…so I’m trying hard to get that magic back 😊
The trailer does look very decent, but like you I am cautious. As for the service..it will probably be a subscription which you can cancel monthly. As it’s only under 6 euros a month, I’m figuring I’ll watch the Mandalorian, and then take it from there 😊😊

This, and the Loki series really interest me … just the thought of adding a 4th streaming service 😦 Already have Netflix, Amazon Instant and WWE Network.

Lol…yeah…it’s exactly the same with me too…But as it’s probably going to be a service that you can cancel monthly, I’m figuring I’ll try it month, and then see how it goes, and if it’s worth it to keep watching😊
As far as I’m concerned this series alone is worth it😃 (and yeah agreed…Loki is something I’m looking forward to as well😊

I may see if a few friends want to go in on it. Or wait until series are finished then buy it for a couple months to binge.

I haven’t even got Netflix yet! Just Sky and Amazon Prime. I really want to see the Loki series though and though I’m not a Star Wars fan at all, I do love me some Pedro Pascale.

Haha…well Netflix certainly is good to have, and I’m honestly not even quite convinced of Disney+ yet, but for the Loki and Star Wars series I will definitely try it out, and see how it goes from there. Well lol, than you are in luck as he is the star of this show😊😊

My coworker is excited for this Disney+. He wants to get one of the packages where you can watch Hulu and ESPN. He also wants to see the Mandalorian. I might get this so I can see those Marvel shows.

Yeah I haven’t quite decided yet what I am going to be doing with my streaming services, but rest assured I am definitely going to get it to watch The Mandalorian! And some of the Marvel series as well! 😊

Me too. I think once I get it, I am probably going to be stuck on these TV series. I am curious about the stories in Mandalorian and where does it fit in the Skywalker story. 🙂

Yeah, I am also hoping we might get some cameos from familiar characters along the way. And who knows maybe even Boba Fett makes a come back (it’s happened before in the Legends comics 😂)

That would be cool! I could totally see that. Based on the trailer, we do get to see Stormtroopers. I would imagine this story taking place around Rogue One timeline. 🙂

Nope..it’s set right after the events of Return of the Jedi apparently so, it will be interesting to see how some of the things we’ve seen in this trailer will fit😊

Really? I didn’t expect that lol. Still, it may give us clues about what led to Episode 7. I am excited to see some bounty hunter action. 😀

The trailer looks cool. It seems like the movies that got canceled have been turned into TV shows. Did this happen because of the Last Jedi’s poor reception or because Disney need content to promote their streaming service? Hmmm. I suspect the streaming services are not going to make much income. People will subscribe for a month, binge watch the stuff they want, then cancel and subscribe to another service. In effect people will rotate the streaming services, rather than be a loyal long term subscriber.

It’s a good question, but I think the Mandalorian has been in production for quite a while, even before the Last Jedi. That said, it really does look incredibly cool. I like the fact that it has this gritty and dark look to it.
As for the streaming services, that is exactly what I am planning myself, to switch back and forth between some of the services. And then maybe decide which one I am going to keep😊😊 But I reckpn that is definitely what a lot of other people are going to be doing as well 😊

We have Hulu Live with the HBO addon , and Amazon Prime. I’m a Disney fanatic so we’ve already decided to cancel HBO which is an extra $15.99 per month, and add Disney Plus, which will only be $6.99. I’m really excited about this.☺️

Yeah, I was pretty much thinking of you when I heard of this service. I haven’t yet decided what I am going to do. I am certainly going to get it the first month to watch the Mandalorian. Whether or not I’m going to keep it depends on what they will continue to provide 😊

You probably heard my ecstatic scream the day they announced it! I’m so excited for the Mandalorian, The Lady and the Tramp movie, Noelle, The World According to Jeff Goldman, the Loki series…Well, pretty much EVERYTHING!😁

Ah…so that was you huh? 😃😃I was wondering what that was lol! I can definitely understand your excitement. There is an enormous amount of things to get excited for that’s for sure, and I can’t help but feel the same: so bring on November already! 😊

I still have several Netflix series I haven’t watched all the way through that I want to. Or favorites to rewatch. If I’m going to keep paying for Netflix, which seems likely, I doubt I’ll get another streaming service. But in the end it will depend on what they have to offer. Anyway thanks for this post and the discussion starter!

Yeah I am not likely to stop with Netflix either as there are way too many things there that I haven’t seen myself yet either. That said, I will probably get this the first month just to see The Mandalorian, and after that I will see what else they are going to offer or cancel😊
You are very welcome, and thank you for commenting! Always appreciate it! 😊

I’ve told myself no, not going to do it. But Obi-Wan and Scarlet Witch will probably suck me in… and that Noelle movie because the North Pole Anna Kendrick, Bill Hader and Shirley McClaine count me in! 🙂
But it does annoy me a bit that, at least the Marvel movies, are going to tie into the cinematic universe (haven’t heard about Star Wars yet) I guess we’ll have to see to what extent though I don’t want to feel like I’m being forced to watch the shows to get the films. But on the whole it looks much more interesting! I hope you love Mandalorian!

Haha..yeah that is what I kept telling myself as well. Not going to do it no way, nope🤔🤔 And then I saw this trailer this morning and that pretty much went out the window 😂
True though about what you are saying. That annoys me as well. if the Marvel movies are going to be nearly unwatchable without the shows, that would really be too much. I’m thinking that it’s probably going to be a few references though. At least that’s what I think/hope.
The Mandalorian is looking very good. I’m definitely have high hopes it’s going to be a fun watch! 😊

It’s definitely starting to look like Disney + is going to have the catalog of content! I think I will be starting to rotate though a few different streaming services month to month. I’ll always keep Viki, but then maybe do Netflix one month, Hulu the next, then Disney Plus the next. Something along those lines. They all have things I want to see on them, but I don’t really don’t need them all every month. That’s my plan of attack for this onslaught of streaming services! hehe 🙂

Disney+ looks nice, but since I still have satellite TV, I probably won’t subscribe. Maybe some of it will occasionally air on Disney Channel, that’d be nice.
LikeLiked by 2 people
Yeah understandable. I will probably subscribe on and off. I’m not interested with everything that the channel has to offer, so I might keep rotating my description! 😊😊

Trailer looks great, as does the cast! I was so certain I wasn’t going to sign up for yet another streaming service. But Disney went ahead and lured me right in with this, the Winter Soldier series, and a Jeff Goldblum show. There goes my money. 😂

Haha…same here. I was also very determined not to add yet another streaming service, but they simply made it too hard to resist this, so yeah like you: there goes my money too lol 😂
But true enough this show looks set to become really good. Can’t wait to see this, I have the feeling it’s going to be pretty good! 😊

Hahahah love how you went from “NOP” to “SCREW IT, LET’S DO IT”! I’ll admit that the TV series in the works sound more appealing than SW: RoS for me, especially when SW: TLJ royally screwed so many fans… I am definitely curious about the gazillion of Marvel shows they’ve announced but man… like you’ve mentioned, that’s a lot of subscriptions and I don’t know if I want to drop more money into it. If I put all my subscriptions together, I have the impression that I’m paying for a whole new 2049 car!!! But hey. Who knows, I might do it too. Who knows hahahaha

Haha…yeah well, it was probably a Force spell that erm forced me to change my mind lol😂
Seriously though I know exactly what you mean. Those sibscriptions cost quite a lot of bucks, and you don’t often notice the money going out😅😅 But that said, in november I will probably be rotating the subscriptions monthly, just depending on what’s out in a certain month. Lol…in that way I won’t have to save up for that 2049 car! 😂😂😂(Although I would love to own one😊😊).
But I agree the Star Wars tv shows sound really appealing…although I am still curious for ROS too…just to see if they can mess it up even more…or bring it to a satisfying close 😉

Wow, that trailer does look awesome 🤩 I’m considering subscribing to Disney+ now too 😂😂 Let’s hope they offer a free trial like Netflix so you can test if its worth it or not (or just to watch a series) 😀

Lol….yeah, this trailer really does look amazing! 😊😊 I was honestly quite determined not to get it…but of course having seen this, I have no choice anymore: I have got to have this in my life! 😂😂
No idea about that yet, but for just under 7 bucks monthly costs, I have to say that it’s definitely worth it for me. And since you can cancel each month anyway, I can simply switch it on and off whenever I want to 😊😊

The Mandalorian sounds way cool.
With regards to the Marvel shows I have to say I agree: I don’t have time for yet another streaming service. I love the She Hulk character but I’m not signing up for Disney + for two interesting shows.
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! 😊 The Mandalorian really does sound incredibly cool, and pretty much (at least for now) the only show that I’m interested in for Disney +. That said, the Marvel shows do sound interesting, but it’s something that I just don’t know where I can find the time for 😂😂

It does look pretty bad ass! Though I can’t say I have the money to be lured over to Disney’s new streaming service at the moment- maybe one day 😉 Hope you enjoy it! Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on it if you do check it out!

Well…havings seen five episodes of the series now, I can definitely confirm it’s a winner! It really is a very decent and well executed show, with some great moments, and awesome setpieces. It’s well worth watching it and for me worth the purchase of a Disney + subscription. That said…after this is over (3 more episodes to go) I will cancel it for the moment, until the next show comes along..which will be late 2020 if I am not mistaking. I hope to make a post for it somewhere next year:)

Trailer looks good, but Disney fooled me before with good looking stuff with lousy scripts. I mean, Disney had it’s glory days with awesome animations, but it’s just not the same any more. Too much greed, I figure… So, having both Netflix and HBO (it’s not me, it’s my girlfriend) I think Disney’s out. For my own sake, I like a good series or movie every once in a while, but a good one, if you know what I mean. Just finished the first season of Dark Crystal on Netflix the day before yesterday. I’ve always been a great fan of the old movie, and the series is actually paying respect to the classic piece of art. Visually it’s spectacular, and the story isn’t bad at all…

Thanks for the comment, and sorry for the late reply. I have had a pretty rough year, and it’s had it’s impact on my blogging activities I’m afraid. I’m trying to catch up on all the comments that I have missed.
As for this series: having now seen 5 episodes I can honestly say that it’s pretty awesome. It’s certainly much better than the movies they have released, and it really has the Star Wars feel if you know what I mean. I highly recommend checking it out, and since it’s first season will end before december, you can bingewatch it one go for only 6 dollars and cancel the subscription again afterwards:)
I have heard great things about the Dark Crystal and I do plan to watch it myself having been a fan of the original movie too:)

You think Netherlands gets things last? You should come to India Michel it’s even worse! But jokes aside, wow another streaming service, more shows, and looks like all our to-watch lists will be spinning off into infinity 😂😂😂 can’t wait to check the show, because you’re right the trailer is so cool!

Lol…haha..yeah I guess it can always be worse lol:) True enough though, it really is a lot of times that we get things last, so this was very unique.
Having seen 5 episodes of the series, I can say it’s an awesome show. I hope to do a review for it at some point:) It’s definitely worth checking out, that’s for sure! 🙂

Yep, I will be buying my first ever streaming service because of this and the Obi-Wan show. Disney got my money, too… and then I’ll buy them on DVD and Digital download, too… and maybe the soundtracks… toys, t-shirts. I better get a second job!
