Has the Raist finally gone mad? Is this really a first impression post on seasonal anime that is appearing on this blog? Does this mean that Raistlin0903 is turning in an anime blog? Let me put your minds at ease by saying that the answer to two of these questions is no. So which of these questions has another answer? Well, I have not gone mad, as I was already quite mad to start with. Right, so with all that out of the way why do a post like this? My blog has been and always shall be a multitopic blog. I have way too many hobbies, and I like talking about all of them here, so that’s not going to change. The reason I started watching seasonal anime at the beginning of this year is that I have really enjoyed the interaction with everyone talking about what happened in a new episode on a weekly basis. It was like we all sat down together in a big room, with our favorite snacks and drinks and watched an episode at the same time. Now I am sorry to say that I am not going to be writing weekly episode reviews on the new shows.

For one thing it would take up too much time that I don’t have. For another it would mean this blog really would be focussing too much on anime, and I have a lot of readers that also like to read about other things such as movies, Korean dramas and boardgames. But I thought it would be nice to write a post about the new shows that I have started watching since this weekend and let you know my thoughts on them. So this really is a first for my blog, but I hope you will like it nonetheless. Usually I try to keep up with about 4-5 shows. I already struggle with that amount, let alone any more. So that’s why I am now watching a total of six new shows. Erm…right. I’m as surprised as you are. No idea if I can stick with all of these, but I am going to try as so far all of them have been a blast. Well, let’s get cracking and reveal them!
Zombieland Saga
Genre: Comedy, Horror
Most of you know that I am not a huge fan of comedy. But sometimes there are exceptions and this anime is one of them. This show is completely insane, and that’s probably why I am enjoying it so much. Highschool girl Sakura Minamoto is tragically killed when she gets run over by a car. But her story doesn’t end there. Ten years later she finds herself resurrected as a zombie and together with a bunch of other girls that have also turned into the living dead, they have to save the so called Saga Prefecture…..as an idol group! Now if this plot doesn’t sound totally crazy wait till you see the show itself. I had tears in my eyes from laughing when these girls went up on stage, headbanging to death metal and it’s probably one of the craziest scenes I have ever seen in an anime. I have no idea where this show will go or if it will continue to be this much fun, but so far I am really enjoying it.
First Impression Score: 8 out of 10
Goblin Slayer
Genre: Fantasy
As much as I love the fantasy genre, weirdly enough I have hardly seen any fantasy anime shows. Yeah, I know right, that is strange. So, with Goblin Slayer I hope to change that. A young and very inexperienced priestess, joins an adventuring party on a quest to fight a bunch of nasty goblins. But soon all hell breaks loose, and she finds herself in big trouble. Just when all hope seems lost a mysterious stranger who introduces himself as Goblin Slayer enters the field. This show felt like I was playing Dungeons and Dragons again. I was pretty surprised by the brutality on display here though. Blood flew everywhere, but it was especially the violence against some of the women here (there was even a rape scene) that kind of threw me off. That said though, I still thought this was a solid first episode and I especially like the look of what I assume to be the hero of this anime, Goblin Slayer. So, I’m going to see where this will go.
First Impression Score: 7 out of 10
SSSS. Gridman
Genre: Science Fiction, Mecha
I already described this one on twitter as the anime version of Pacific Rim and I think that description is fairly accurate. Yūta Hibiki is a highschool boy who has lost his memory. On an old computersystem someone that introduces himself as Hyper Agent Gridman appears and tells the boy he has a mission to fullfill. Apperently he is the only one who can see Gridman too. When a huge monster appears in his city, Yūta has to step up to the call. This first episode was very enjoyable. I loved the fight sequence between the monster and the huge robot, and it kind of gave me this old school anime vibe. Can’t say much more about this one yet though. I do hope it won’t turn into one of those “monster of the week” type of shows which would be kind of a shame. Other than that I kind of enjoyed this for what it was, and look forward to next week’s episode.
First Impression Score: 8 out of 10
Rascal does not dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
Genre: Romance, Highschool, Supernatural
This is a show I would probably have passed over had I not read about it over on Karandi’s blog. Because really, that title is just crazy. Surprisingly enough, this is the show that has left the biggest impression on me. Highschool boy Sakuta Azusagawa sees a mysterious girl in the school library wearing a bunny suit. If that wasn’t strange enough already he is the only one who can see her. The girl called Mai Sakurajima is a teenage actress who is on hiatus, and is now suffering from what they call “ Adolescence Syndrome”. More and more people are unable to see the girl, and this of course leads to all kinds of problems. How do you order food for instance when no one is able to see you? To say I loved this first episode is an understatement. The entire show just had a certain vibe to it, and I loved the dialogue between the two leads. Add to this the mystery element, as well as some pretty relatable themes and this for me has turned into my favorite show so far.
First Impression Score: 9 out of 10
Sword Art Online: Alicization
Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy
Yes people Sword Art Online is back for it’s third season which of course will probably start up all the discussions again on how many people are going to hate on this. I don’t care and I’m proud to say it too: I freaking LOVE this show. The first episode of this new season was 47 minutes long and it was a very strong start of this new arc in my opinion. Kirito and Asuna, as well as a bunch of other fan favorite characters all make a welcome return, with an episode that felt a lot like we were back in the first season of this wonderful anime. Some great action sequences (Yay, we had dragons), a new and mysterious world, and a lot of questions is pretty much what I experienced while watching this opening episode. I do have to say that in all honesty there was a lot of information thrown at us, and some of it still hasn’t really registered with me. But I’m pretty sure with a whopping 50 episode count, there will be enough time to explain all this. Either way, I really had a good time watching it and can’t wait to see how the new season will progress.
First Impression Score: 8 out of 10
Last Impression

So, observant readers will probably notice that I mentioned I would be watching six shows. But I have only written about five of them. Where is number six? Well, it’s not a new show and it is only a continuation of last season. I’m of course talking about an anime that needs no introduction (and if it does, where have you been all this time): Attack on Titan. The third season so far, while having a totally different vibe than the previous two, has been a total joy to watch. I’m keeping my fingers crossed it will stay that way, because right now, it’s slowly turning into my favorite season so far.Well this post is long enough now, so it’s time to put an end to this. I hope you like the choices that I have made (and feel free to let me know in the comments), and I look forward to discussing all these new shows in the upcoming weeks with you. I hope everyone will have a lot of fun watching this season. Thanks for reading and see you on the next post!
Great shows?!! No idea 😂 but it was fun to see the pics 😂😂

Haha, definitely great shows Shalini! 😊😊(although these are only the first episodes, so it might change 😂😂). But the pictures are certainly cool and fun! 😊😊

I have never watched a seasonal anime. I do find the illustrations fascinating though. It intrigues me how the Japanese animators always portray a ‘desirable woman’ as unnaturally having huge eyes, and large breasts. (As in ‘Bunny Girl Sempai’) Most real Japanese ladies look nothing like this of course, so I presume it must be that fact generating the opposite fantasy in the minds of those illustrators.
Best wishes, Pete.

I never used to watch seasonal anime either. Usually I just watched shows when they were completed (so I could binge them in one sitting lol😂). But since this year I started with seasonal anime, and it’s really been fun talking about all the new shows across all the anime blogs that I follow (but that said there are people that watch around 20 shows at a time, and that’s something with a fulltime day job, I just have no time for whatsoever 😂)
You are so right though. It does seem to be the trend in a lot of animes, but there are also exceptions to this rule (the beautiful anime series Violet Evergarden for example is one of them 😊). But you might be right about the minds of those illustrators though 😂😂

This is certainly a diverse line up and even if you end up dropping one or two of these it looks like you will still have a fun season. I can’t wait to discuss these shows as they unfold as the only one here that I’m probably not going to keep (unless there’s a second episode disaster for Zombieland Saga or Bunny Girl Senpai) is SSSS.Gridman. At this point I haven’t decided on that one.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Well, I think it will be hard to drop any of these seeing as they are all pretty interesting so far (but I’m probably going to curse myself in trying to keep up with them lol 😂😂). SSSS.Gridman could definitely end up being a show that can’t keep interesting for long.If it really turns into one of those dreaded “monster of the week” type of shows, it might become boring. But, I guess we will find out soon enough!. Really looking forward to those discussions myself as well 😊😊

This means some good reviews are on the way huh! Have fun watching them! I am watching this anime series called The Blue Exorcist now.

Haha, well, seeing as the season has just started those reviews will probably not here really soon. But there will be others coming as well 😊
I have heard some good things about Blue Exocist. I hope you will have fun watching it 😊😊

Very nice first impressions here Raistlin and glad to see you doing some!
I more or less agree with you on just about everything, and Bunny Girl was also a huge surprise for me as well and some how has wound up being one of my favourites too!
Looking forward to seeing what comes out on top for you in the end!

Thank you so much, that’s very kind of you to say😊 I really had fun writing a post like this for a change.
This season so far has had some really great shows, but like you I was most impressed by Bunny Girl. It’s always nice to see something that you really don’t expect anything from turn out so great 😀
Thanks again, and I will be sure to let you know what my favorite will be at the end of the season 😊

Whoa, this was a surprise to see! :p
Nevertheless, you have some interesting choices here! I’ve definitely been surprised by the amount of praise Bunny Girl has received… Perhaps I was wrong to shrug it off. ^^” SSSS. Gridman is one that I haven’t seen many people talk about (unless I’m just ignorant of other people’s choices for this season!) so I’d be interested in seeing what you think about that one as it progresses!
Either way, though, it seems like you might have a promising season ahead of you! Enjoy~

Haha: yeah, I woke up this morning and seeing as I am really watching more shows than usual this season, I figured I would write a post like this one 😊
It really was a show that I completely did not know anything about, and probably would not even watched had I not read the review by Karandi. It’s truly a really wonderful series. Totally different than what I expected it to be.
Nope. I think SSSS.Gridman has fallen a bit under the radar, but I still enjoyed it for sure.
Definitely excited about this season so far. Hope the shows will continue to be as much fun as they are now😉 Have fun watching as well! 😀

Wow, some of these shows have really strange titles. Rascal does not dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, sounds more like a statement than a title hehe 😂😂 But I suppose its all in good fun and anime wouldn’t be anime without its unusual titles 🙂
Out of all of these shows, I like the sound of Zombieland Saga. Cute headbanging zombies would be hilarious to see (also awesome) 😀
Great post 🙂 Hope you enjoy the rest of Attack on Titan 😀

Haha, yeah the title for Bunny Girl is probably the weirdest title ever: but it’s also at the same time one of the best animes I’ve seen in a while (guess it’s one of thise cases were you can’t judge by a title lol😂)
Zombieland Saga really is completely insane. No idea if it continues to be this much fun, but so far it’s hilarious.😂
Thank you, and I think Attack on Titan will probably not disappoint, it’s been a great season so far 😊😊

I heard something about Goblin Slayer adapting the manga over the light novels (?), so that the reviews were fairly low or lower than what people were hoping for. I hope you enjoy it though!

Having no knowledge of this show whatsoever (not familiar with the original material) so far I have enjoyed it (despite the fact that I wasn’t really prepared for it lol😂😂). But I’m definitely looking forward to the next episode that’s for sure 😊😊

Aside from AoT and SSS we have all overlap! 🙂
I enjoyed most the shows but none got me super hype. I think Zombie and Bunny were probably the best of the bunch I tried so far.

Nice to hear we have overlap 😊😊
Well, honestly Bunny did give me hype, I really enjoyed it, and the rest of the shows I guess are good. SSSS is pretty good, just a bit worried it migh turn into a monster of the week type of show, but…we’ll see😊 Looking forward to watching the rest of the season for all the shows 😀😀

SSSS was pretty secretive and for the people that got to see some in advance they haven’t shown anything past episode 3. There is a lot of speculation that there will be some kind of twist after that.

Oooh…well THAT sounds interesting. If that were to be the case, that would really be cool😊 Well I hardly ever give up on shows (I’m still watching Angels of Death (which by the way has continued in case you weren’t aware of this)),so in all likelyhood I won’t be dropping this anytime soon 😊

Time will tell. Anyway, yes I did know Angels of Death is continuing but unfortunately not in my country. I was able to watch episode 13 on YouTube though.

Hmm, I’ll double check then. It didn’t show up for me the other night. Oh my gosh… it totally did. Ok, I must have just missed it or checked before it was added. Will definitely watch on CR next time.

Welcome to the Dark Side! Mwahahahaha! 😛
I’m into “Bunny Senpai” and “Zombieland Saga” too, but one other which I’m enjoying is “Double Decker”, which is in the same universe as, but not directly related to, “Tiger & Bunny”. Such a hoot! 🙂

Double Decker huh? Just checked the synopsis on Crunchyroll and it does sound very interesting. I think I will reserve this one for the end of the season, so I can bingewatch it one go 😊😊

After the last season of AoT I’m really liking the tone of season three. I didn’t hate season 2 but I think after a long wait you expect so much more. This one I’m enjoying the political background and history.

Good for you to be proud about liking a show that has a lot of hate (SAO). I’m going to see where Goblin Slayer goes, it’s still kind of early to tell at this point. The latest episode of Attack on Titan was great (episode 10). ^^

I have always loved Sword Art and that will never change. I just think it’s a fun show 😊😊 Yeah, I have no idea either yet what Goblin Slayer is going to end up with. I didn’t hate it, but out of all the shows, it’s the one I liked the least. I will probably see that episode tonight: looking forward to it 😀😀

Oh snap, these do sound pretty epic! I am curious to see what you’ll think of every single one of them too. But something about Goblin Slayer looks and sounds super appealing too. But how on Earth do you watch 6 shows at the same time though hahahah Does it mean you don’t watch any TV series (kdrama/american) in particular too? Maaaan if I could chew off that many anime at the same time, I’d be pretty darn happy! 😛

Haha…do you know that there are people that I follow that watch 22 of these shows??😂😂 I’m not even joking here! Well honestly, an anime episodes is only 24 minutes long. So, there is usually always a little bit of time to watch it on a day. It’s the first time that I am actually watching six shows at a time though…so we’ll see if I can keep it up lol 😂😂
Goblin Slayer has already been the subject of a lot of contoversy, especially with the rape scene that is in this one. But it’s not a bad series, honestly though out of all these, this one has so far been the show that interested me the least 😊
Oh and yes I do still watch other things as well 😊😊😊

I am a simple man. I see a blog post with a bunny girl and I click on it.
The fantasy genre in anime feels like a dying beast. Many fantasy shows that air these days seem to borrow elements from MMORPGs rather than pure fantasy.
Like you, I am trying to watch more new releases these days. Many of the blogs I follow do episode reviews. Those posts are much more enjoyable when you can relate with the the anime they are talking about.

Haha…well, the title of this anime is really misleading. It’s a completely different anime than one would expect, but it’s certainly been the suprise of the season for me so far 😊
Well…Goblin Slayer is pretty different. Especially considering the fact that it has generated quite the controversy over the rape scene in this episode.
That’s pretty much my main reason to try and keep up with these. Already running behind though, so I hope that I CAN keep up lol 😂😂

Goblin Slayer might end up like Cross Ange. A controversial first episode ends up scaring off some viewers. People like anime because it can be more mature than Western cartoons, but then they kick up a fuss when things get too real.

Yay anime!! I missed seeing this on your blog 🙂
I have to say I haven’t watched nor was aware of the existence of any of these but I do think I would find the first one and Rascal does not dream of Bunny Girl Senpai quite amusing!
Hahaha oh SAO… So many haters you have. I honestly don’t understand what people have against this anime that make them so vehemently against it. I didn’t try to delve into the reasons though because I didn’t want to be spoiled (I have only watched a couple episodes). It’s nice to see someone who enjoys the show! And is actually excited for the new one! Controversial controversial 😁
Really great post, as always, my friend. I hope you continue to bring anime into the mix once in a while, even though I do love everything else you write! 😊

Yeah anime has been missing for a bit, which is why I am trying to get back into writing more about anime the upcoming weeks.
Well, no suprise you haven’t yet heard of these as pretty much all of them are new shows that just started this week 😊 So far, all of these have been a joy to watch!
As for Sword Art, really no idea either. I wonder if some people have even seen the show, or just hate because everyone else seems to. Luckily there are also some fans of the series…so that’s good news! 😊😊
Thanks again for your great comment! 😊😊

Nothing’s set in stone yet aside from Double Decker at the moment (I’ve already watched the first episode twice, which probably says something about me), although the shows with the strongest chances at the moment are Zombieland Saga and Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken (plus Golden Kamuy by nature of that being a season 2, but I haven’t gotten to that first episode yet). I said I might be checking out Bunny Girl Senpai once Han Gyaku Sei Arthur is confirmed for somewhere (looks like Crunchyroll might have it)…
…aside from that, I don’t think I’ve seen too many takes on Merc Storia. I wish I could shop around a bit more when it comes to opinions on that show, but maybe it’s because it’s more aimed towards kids that nobody cares…?

Hmm good question. I again had to google it, as I had not heard about that show yet, but it’s always interesting to see that there are some animes every season that aren’t even bad but hardly anyone seems to talk about (Phantom in the Twilight for instance was a great example from last season 😊).
