Okay, today I’m going to let you in on a little known secret about me. It will probably come as a shock to most of you. Are you ready? Okay here it comes: I love movies. Yes, I know this is a revelation about me that probably surprises most people that have been reading my blog for a while now. Seriously though, because I love films so much, I don’t think there is a better place to experience them than in a movie theatre. Sure, home entertainment has definitely come a long way, but watching a movie in theatres on a big screen with thundering sound is still the best way to enjoy a film. Well, at least for me it is. Having said that, there are certainly quite a number of movies that I would love to see in the theatres one day. Either I was too young to see them when they came out, or I just did not have the time to go there. Terminator 2 is a movie that I almost know by heart, but I had never seen it before on the big screen. And now director James Cameron is giving everyone that chance. Because yes people, Terminator 2 is back, and now in 3D.
Terminator 2 Judgment Day picks up the story almost 11 years after the end of the first movie. Things have not gone very well for the mother of the future, Sarah Connor. After having tried to blow up a computer factory in order to prevent the war with Skynet, she got arrested and was placed in a mental institute. Her son, John Connor, who is now a teenager, is living with foster parents, and is in the belief that his mother is a complete psycho. Ever since he was born she had been preparing him for the coming war against the machines, but John is now in complete disbelief of everything he has been told. Things are about to change though. Skynet has sent an advanced prototype Terminator called a T-1000 back through time with the mission to kill John. This deadly killing machine will stop at nothing to carry out it’s program. John is about to have his whole world turned upside down. Luckily he is not without help though, as a protector for John has also been sent from the future. A protector in a very unlikely form……a Terminator. The battle for the future is about to begin….
A few months ago I reviewed the first Terminator movie, and I stated in that review that I still think that first part is the best. Having now seen this second movie in the theatres, I haven’t changed my mind on that opinion. However I still absolutely love this film. As this movie has originally been made in 1991, the thing that truly amazed me the most was the fact how well it has withstood the test of time. If someone would have told me that this movie had been released for the first time this year, I would have believed that person. The special effects still look every bit as impressive and not even for a single second does the film look dated. The 3D effects did not add much to the experience though, but honestly that didn’t really bother me. James Cameron is not George Lucas, so except for a few minor technical details the movie appears in the same form as it’s 1991 version.
Terminator 2 is not only a special effects marvel, but it’s also the characters that are featured in this movie, that are truly terrific. Schwarzenegger steals the show as the good Terminator, and the chemistry he has with young John Connor, played by Edward Furlong, is the heart of this movie. Even though he plays a machine, Arnold manages to add a layer of humanity to his role, that really makes you care about what is basically a robot. Erm, excuse me, cybernetic organism. Linda Hamilton returns in her role as Sarah Connor, but it’s almost as if she plays a completely different character. In the first film she was the one who needed protection, but here it’s people who need protection from her. This Sarah Connor is a tough chick that kicks ass and is at times truly frightening. Speaking of frightening, let’s not forget the chilling role of Robert Patrick as the T-1000. His cold portrayal of a machine that is totally without mercy, is really amazing, and he manages to create one of the best villains in movie history.
I had an absolute blast seeing this film in the theatres for the first time. James Cameron has stated that if this release manages to perform well at the box office, he is going to focus on bringing his other masterpiece, Aliens, back to the big screen in the 3D format. If that were to happen, I would go absolutely nuts, as Aliens is my alltime favorite science fiction movie. We will just have to wait and see though. In the meantime everyone can enjoy this terrific classic in the way it was intended to be seen: in theatres. I cannot recommend this movie more than I have already let shine through in this review. If you have yet to see this amazing film I can only say that you are in for a treat. This is science fiction movie making at it’s best and a true classic that everyone who loves movies like this, should see at least once in his or her life.
I give Terminator 2 Judgment Day 3D a 9 out of 10 score.
Yep, one of the best movies of all time! I actually like this one a little bit more than the first 🙂 It’s a perfect example of what I think a well done action movie should have: fantastic story, interesting characters, great actors, heart, and of course action and special effects. It’s just that perfect combo that seems so difficult for most movies to achieve, especially these days. Truly a classic 🙂

Yeah, when I left the theatre last week after having seen it again, the thing I was truly in shock for was how amazing this film still looks. The first Terminator, while still a terrific movie, has certain special effects shots, that do look dated now. This movie had none of those. Completely agree, this is truly a classic film 😊

While I prefer the original, T2 is superb. The shame is, I can’t watch 3D films. They give me migraines.

Honestly, I really don’t like 3D. In fact I hate it, and could definitely do without it. But I could not pass up the chance to see it in theatres though. Really shame that you are not able to see it because of this. Maybe one day it will get a release without the 3D effects. Fingers crossed. I agree though, this film is absolutely terrific 😊

Oh, there are plenty of T2 releases out there, so it’s all good. It’s just a pain when something hits the cinema in 3D only.

“James Cameron is not George Lucas” haha ;))
But what happened to Robert Patrick after T2?

Honestly, he has done quite a lot. He has appeared in an enormous amount of television series, ranging from X-files, to the Unit, Stargate Atlantis and currently he stars in the television series Scorpion. His movie career never took off I guess, but he certainly plays some major roles on the small screen 😊

Yes 😦 I though he was becoming a major star, but it never happened…

I’m all for bringing classics back to the big screen but I am not a fan of 3D. It always seems really gimmicky and intrusive as a handful of objects poke out toward you from what is mostly a flat image.

I could not agree more. If this would have been any other film, I would probably have not even gone to seen it. But I just could not pass up my chance to see one of my favorite movies at the big screen. I really hate 3D as well though, and could certainly do without it 😊

I loved this movie the first time around, so after reading this fantastic review I’d love to see it in 3D, but I can’t because of my migraines.😖

You are not the only one that experiences migraines while watching 3D. Honestly, I really don’t like 3d either and can do without it. I would probably have passed on this, if this wasn’t Terminator 2 (or aliens for that matter lol), but I just could not pass this up. Too bad you can’t watch it though. Thank you for the kind words 😊

This was the last Terminator movie I liked before I fell out of love with the franchise. A lot of the details have vanished from my memory though

Yeah, I can relate. The movies after this certainly weren’t as good as these first parts, but just contained a few scenes that were fun, but that’s about it. This one was terrific though 😊

You love movies? Really? Surely you jest. Let me check the calendar, to make sure it’s not April 1st 🙂
Glad to hear that you got to see T2 in the cinema at long last. It’s one of my fave movies of all time. We seem to differ slightly on Terminator/Aliens. I prefer T2 over the first movie and like Alien more than Aliens. They are all awesome though.

It’s just dawned on me that you posted this on August 29th… Judgement Day!

Oh my, you are so right😮 I kid you not, this was not intended by me…..wow, talk about a scary coincidence. Maybe Skynet somehow took over my mind or something? 😂

Haha, lol, yeah I figured this would be a shock to most of my readers that I love movies. But yes, sometimes I just like to throw in a shocking thing to keep everyone on edge.
Wow, this is pretty much a first though, having a different view on two movies….I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone here. Seriously though, both films are almost as good as their counterparts, and I think both alien/aliens abd t1/t2 can’t exist without each other. They are all terrific abd classic films 😊

Sounds like a fantastic experience. I love the movie anyway, but in 3-D I may have to check it again.

Yeah, honestly the 3D for this one isn’t very good, but just the experience to finally see it on the big screen did it for me. That was seriously awesome 😊

The worst thing about being a terminator without skin is it becomes exceedingly hard to play the trumpet…I remember watching this movie as a kid. I was off school ill one day and it had premiered on Sky TV at the weekend, and Mum had recorded it for me. I watched it whilst doped up and drowsy and truthfully didn’t like it, and I have no idea why as it checks all the right boxes. Robert Patrick was fantastic, I love the storm drain and the 0 casualty mini gun but for some reason younger me didn’t like it. Perhaps older me would as I have nostalgia for simpler times of being off school with illness watching stuff like this, but at the time I really didn’t appreiate. I think I have it on DVD, a gift from a friend. I should probably watch and see what older me thinks

Really? Okay, interesting that your younger self didn’t like it. I have always enjoyed this movie a lot, but as mentioned the first part for me is still the better film (simply because it had way more tense moments, and this one is very cool because of the special effects 😊). But…who knows, maybe older you will appreciate it more. That certainly happened to me with quite a number of movies in the past 😊😊

I’m glad to know you enjoyed the 3D version. I was looking through the movies list this past weekend and saw this movie. My first instinct was, the actor is too old to make a movie and I thought he gave up acting for politics because he was a governor of California. But, I see from your review that Cameron just updated the movie with special effects and 3D. How cool that movies can be done this way..haha.. Excellent review as always and yes, movies is awesome, who can resist? 🙂

Well, maybe it’s fun to know, but Schwarzenegger is making a new Terminator movie again next year. I really wonder myself if he isn’t too old either, but we will just have to wait and see his the movie turns out I guess 😊

Haha, well….I have missed a couple of classic movies myself, so really no worries. The great thing is they are not going anywhere and you can still watch them on dvd. But truly both Terminator films (parts 1 and 2 that is), are highly recommended. Good movies to watch on a rainy sunday afternoon 😊 Thanks for commenting : always appreciate it 😀
