Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2, American movie (2017)

Unless you have been living on a completely different planet for the past few years, it is almost impossible to have missed the enormous amount of superhero movies in the cinemas. Marvel ofcourse has released so many comic books over the past few decades, that it is almost impossible to know every single character contained within these comics. The fun thing about the release of the movies is that many of us get to meet a few of these characters for the very first time. Three years ago, we were introduced to a new team of heroes: the Guardians of the Galaxy. It was a pretty unique Marvel movie, seeing that the team was made up mostly of aliens (and a talking raccoon being one of them, just don’t let him hear I called him a raccoon). Also the action did not take place on Earth but in outer space. It was a pretty big gamble on Marvel’s part. But the gamble worked, as the movie became a huge success. And you know what happens when things are a success right? Correct: enter the sequel.

The new Nintendo controller now comes complete with a talking tree (batteries not included)

The action in part two sees the Guardians being much more of a team than in part one. Ofcourse there is still the occasional disagreement, but mostly we see a tightly knit group that works well together. When the team has completed an assignment, Rocket steals a bunch of batteries from their former employers. These people are less than amused by this action, and soon set off in pursuit. During their escape, they come across a mysterious individual, who comes to their rescue. Soon after the man introduces himself as none other than Peter Quill’s father. This is the beginning of a new adventure in which the word family becomes ever more important. Just who is Peter’s dad? And what are his goals? The answers to these questions will come, but they might not be as much fun as they may have expected…..

No……I am your father! Wait, wrong movie.Β

I absolutely loved the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. It had a very cool storyline, great music, fantastic characters and most of all it had the word fun written all over it. This second part certainly contains a lot of these elements. The Guardians themselves are still every bit as enjoyable as they were in the first movie. Baby Groot really takes centre stage in this one, and there are some seriously funny scenes involving this very popular character. The already pretty big cast is joined by a couple of new heroes, most notably Mantis who has some of the craziestΒ scenes in the film. Veteran actor Kurt Russell did a great job in his role as Peter’s dad. Kurt is just one of those actors that can handle pretty much any role, and it was fun to see him play this kind of character.

Never leave your home without a big gun.

The story of the movie itself though, was one of the weaker points. Basically the film deals with three different plots, that eventually come together. There is a lot going on at the same time, and that sometimes made it a bit hard to follow. I certainly felt at times that they tried to put too many things in the movie, and if they had let a few things out it would have been a more streamlined film. There is enough action in this movie to fill a galaxy though, and some these scenes were very enjoyable to watch. Coupled together with some great special effects, humour and terrific music, you still get a film that definitely has enough entertainment value.

Really, you should take a breath mint.Β

If you liked the first movie, you will enjoy this one as well. While it isn’t as good as the first part, there is still plenty to enjoy in this sequel. Just like almost every Marvel movie to date, it pays to not leave the theatre after you have seen the credits for the movie. I am not going to give away spoilers here, but suffice it to say that there is more than one scene before the credits finally come to an end. In closing I would just like to say: I am Groot! What’s that? You want a translation for that? Oh well, just go find Rocket, he will tell you.

I give Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 a 8 out of 10 score.

  1. Ahh! I’ve been really excited about this movie and will be going to see it soon. I’ll have a better response for your review after I watch it πŸ˜€

You guys seem to get some of these films before the US. This one opens Friday (Thursday midnight) over here.

    1. Haha, cool looking forward to that! Really? I am surprised honestly that it has not yet been released in the US. Usually we get movies much later, so this is pretty unique πŸ˜€ Have fun with the movie, I hope you will enjoy it 😊

  2. I’ll definitely have to catch this one when it is finally out on DVD. I enjoyed the first movie well enough, not a favourite but entertaining, and could do with some more fairly mindless galactic fun. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  3. We liked it quite a bit. It wasn’t an easy task to be good enough for me as the first part is my favorite Marvel movie so far. Honestly, the story wasn’t the path I hoped the storyline would follow but in the end the characters (everybody loves Groot, I’m a big Rocket fan, think it is one of the best CGI animal characters ever and Chris Pratt is awesome as well) are enough to make a fun movie and in this one they (especially at the end) managed to hit some emotional strings.

    1. HelloπŸ˜€ It’s been a while, I am so far behind on watching things for your channel that I am almost ashamed here. But I am definitely going to be spending some time in the weekend to watch a few videos that I have missed over the past few weeks. As for this movie, absolutely agree. The characters is what makes this film so awesome. Rocket is fantastic, but my favorite just has to be Groot. Really enjoyed pretty much every scene that he was in, seriously funny stuff. Glad you enjoyed the movie as well, will be back to your channel as soon as I can πŸ˜€

  4. Glad you enjoyed this one! πŸ™‚ I liked the first movie a lot – it was fun, charming and had an epic soundtrack. The cast was adorable, too. So, all in a all, a great recipe. Still, I wasn’t sure the sequel would be as great so I’m happy to know I was wrong!
Some of the things you mentioned are exactly what I was hoping this movie would achieve, and some of its issues were also something I was afraid would happen.
Thankfully, the pros overcame the cons. Great review, Michel! ^^

    1. Thanks again 😊 Yes the first one was such a good watch, that it would automatically be pretty hard to make a movie just as good. But they did manage to make a worthy follow up, and there is quite a lot to enjoy πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you very much 😊 The first one was ofcourse very good, so it was going to be a pretty difficult job to make a movie just as good. Still, it certainly isn’t a bad movie. Hope you will enjoy the film. Have fun 😊

  5. Ah, superhero movie fatigue! But I do love this crazy team-up, and Kurt Russell for sure. It’s too tough to surpass Part 1, so I’ll lower my expectations for this one. Also, I took a peek at the soundtrack list, and it’s awesome. πŸ˜‰ Great review, as always!

  6. Has it really been that long since the first movie? xD i work at a theatre and it’s estimated to be super packed this weekend and i happen to work o(-( a lot of people are excited for it but i can’t really remember much about the first movie or how i felt. i’ll still be going to watch the second because my family might want to (or at least my brother wants to), glad to know it’s a good watch

    1. It really is a fun movie. As mentioned it is not as good as the first one, but still it is highly enjoyable. Hopefully you are going to enjoy it as well. Have fun! 😊
Ps: you have one of the best jobs in the world: that is so cool! πŸ˜€

      1. lol, it is a pretty neat job but only when it’s busy. i like to keep busy so when not many people go to the theatre it can be a bit of a drag πŸ˜› and thanks, i’m sure i will (i say i don’t like comedy stuff and then you see me cracking up like ok me)

  7. I saw the preview of this movie when I took my son to see the Power Rangers last month. You’re right about not knowing the different characters.. Unless you really follow up with them.. I don’t recognize any of the new ones.. I’m glad this movie scored pretty high for you. I wasn’t sure about seeing it.. It’s interesting how you said there’s a lot going on in the movie.. I feel that way in many books too.. but 3 different plots in a movie.. that’s a lot of info to retain πŸ™‚ Love your review!

    1. Yes, it was still a fun movie, and one well worth seeing in the cinema, but it could have been better plotwise. Still, it’s the strength of the established characters that makes this film so very entertaining 😊

      1. I actually went to see it this weekend. Personally, I would give this movie a 3 stars out of 10. Too much family issues haha.. My son saw the superhero costumes and wanted to see but midway into the movie, he felt bored haha.. we saw it in 3D. Yes, it could have been better. I loved the Power Rangers a lot more than Guardians of the Galaxy.

      2. Wow 3 out of 10 huh? Lol…that is what I like about movies: everybody experiences them differently, this one no exception. I agree it was simply not as much fun as the first part, but I did get to enjoy it nonetheless. Hopefully the next movie you will go to, will be more to your liking 😊

      3. Thanks πŸ™‚ I might consider to re-subscribed to Netflix again. There are some movies I want to see, like 13 Reasons Why since I read the book already.. haha.. do you find your anime movies on Netflix? I haven’t browse for it when I used it before.
