For those of you that might have been worried that my blog has died, I am here to put your minds at ease: no it has not gone dark. The past few weeks I have had something on my mind, which unfortunately at times robs me of the fun and energy to write a post. It is nothing serious, but it keeps circling around in my head. So my apologies for that, but I have tried to keep up with everyone’s blogs as much as I could. But enough about that, before this turns into a post about me, let’s do another review. Where Marvel shines on the big screen, it is pretty much the DC universe that rules the small screen. One of their most succesful series to date has been Arrow. It is not very hard to see why this is. The superhero show has fantastic special effects, great action, and a really appealing and ever growing cast of characters. The third season was definitely no exception to this rule.
This third season of Arrow was all about identity. Oliver Queen has to face his worst enemy to date in the form of Ra’s al Ghul. When someone close to Oliver gets murdered, the Arrow crew will have to put everything on the line to find out who is behind it all. Even if this means forming alliances with some of their worst enemies. But it is not only that, Oliver himself will have to turn into something else. Even if that means that in the end he might end up losing all he cares about, and those who are his friends….
Arrow season 3 has been the darkest season to date. And it is because of this that this entire season felt different than the previous ones. Besides it being dark, we also have a lot of new characters that made their entrance in this season, most notably Ray Palmer played by Brandon Routh. Now most of you will remember Brandon for his role in Superman Returns (a role I still think he played very well), and you can see the absolute joy he has in playing the character of Palmer. His chemistry with Felicity, really works, and I also thought the superhero character he ultimately turns into, is very cool.
The story for this season, as mentioned earlier, was very dark, and that’s why it was great that there were at least a few lighter moments as well. Most of the comedy relief this season comes from Felicity (played by the amazing Emily Bett Rickards). Her character is just a joy to watch, and she just instantly lights up a scene when she enters it. Thea Queen, played by Willa Holland, was a character I did not enjoy this season. I am sorry to say that her turning into a sword fighting type of hero, just did not have me convinced. All in all though, this season is highly enjoyable. With numerous guest appearances by the Flash, it really seems that the DC television series universe is growing into something just as cool as the Marvel cinematic universe. If you have yet to discover Arrow, you are in for a treat (ofcourse start with season 1). Everyone who already knows the show will find this season to be every bit as good as the previous ones.
I give Arrow season 3 a 9 out of 10 score.
I haven’t seen the Arrow series. I’m very hit or miss with superhero shows and movies. I watched the first season of Supergirl last year and did not care for it. The CW shows tend to be better as a whole though, and I have heard lots of good things about Arrow. It might be one I give a go at some point 🙂

Supergirl is now in the hands of CW and I have heard that the show definitely has improved since that happened. I think you will like Arriw though. It is really one of the best superhero shows out on tv abd it’s dark tone is the thing I like the most about it 😊

It is nice to see you here again Michel. I hope whatever is circling in that mind is resolved soon so you feel more at ease. I find it overwhelming at times myself due to some things I’m dealing with. You can also email me if you so wish but glad to see you writing again.
I haven’t really liked many superhero shows for some reason..I tried to watch this awhile ago but i guess it wasn’t for me nor the popular Daredevil series though I enjoyed the movie. Smallville was quite good. None the less, I enjoyed reading your review for it. ☺

Aww, thank you so much for these kind words. They are really appreciated. Please know, that you may always contact me as well. If there is anything I can help you with let me know. As for me, no as I said it is luckily nothing very serious, but it does (at times) drain me a bit of energy. I keep trying to be positive though, and I am sure it will resolve itself soon.
Smallville was a seriously good show. I liked it a lot. I also highly recommend the Flash. I might have a review up for it later today. It is not as dark as Arrow or Daredevil, but just has the word fun written all over it. It at times feels a bit like smallville 😊

I was wondering if you had an email address as I wasn’t able to find one on your page but I’m glad to see you here once again.
I find it hard to watch most shows, I have a peculiar mind shall we say heh but I’m currently watching Taboo which airs on BBC one every Saturday starring Tom Hardy. There’s been three episodes so far but it’s a strong start. You might like it.

I have an emailadress: mvanderweide28@gmail.com. You are correct that is not on my page, I don’t hand it out to everyone so that is pretty much why 😊 I love Tom Hardy, he is such a good actor, and I have heard about this series from a friend of mine. She loved it a lot as well 😊 Hope to see it soon, thanks for reminding me 😊

Ah ok. I’m sorry if it made you uncomfortable to share your email. ‘You can always just contact me through mine if you ever want to.
Yes the show is good so far, I really enjoyed Peaky Blinders, it’s by the same writer of Taboo starring Cillian Murphy. You’re welcome. ☺

No worries, was not uncomfortable at all 😊 Just saying that I have not mentioned it on my blog, because I don’t want everyone in the whole world to know my emailadress lol 😉 I have heard a lot of good things about Peaky Blinders as well, it is still on my (way too long) watchlist 😊

Nice to hear from you again! I definitely thought something was wrong and considered trying to contact you. I’m glad to see that it’s not something serious related to your health. If there’s anything you think I can help with, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
I started Arrow season 1 sometime back and just haven’t been able to make much time for it, though I did like what I saw so far. Ollie has always been the kind of guy who doesn’t shy away from doing what needs to be done, and from the tone of your review it seems like that might still be the case here. Considering how popular this series has been, I can only assume that it’s a good adaptation. Having all the crossover characters definitely helps too.

First off, thank you for your kind words. Really appreciate it a lot 😊 No, it luckily isn’t something serious, but sometimes there is something that hits you quite unexpectedly, and you at times don’t know how to handle it, or get it under control. But as I said it is nothing serious. I really thank you though, for the offer of help: you are too kind 😊
Arrow really is a great show, abd in my opinion gets better with every season. The dark theme of it, really went pretty far this season, and that honestly is a thing I really enjoyed. With now 4 series (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow) being integrated, it only keeps getting better and better. It really feels like the small screen version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that is just awesome 😊

Great review, Michel! 🙂 I finished season 3 only recently (yeah I’m very behind) so this came in handy. I also have to agree with most of what you said. Thea’s character does feel a bit weak in my opinion? Not sure how to put it, but maybe it’s Willa Holland. Don’t get me wrong, I love her but I’m just not feeling her lately. She definitely did a 180 and that has its consequences.
As for Oliver turning dark, definitely an interesting concept to develop this season and one I enjoyed very much. Felicity is really a ray of sunshine on the show but I’m not a fan of the romance between her and Oliver.

Well I have finished season 3 myself only just now myself, so I can relate 😊 I agree with you about Will Holland. I like her too, but there was something with her this season that I just could not relate to. She is better in being a supporting role, than acting out as a hero. Honestly, I liked Felicity better with Ray Palmer. I was kind of sad to see that did not go anywhere in the end. But alas, that’s how the writers in the end wrote it. Thank you for your comment 😊

I’ve been wondering where you have been. I hope whatever’s on your mind isn’t too distressing.
I’ve only watched a handful of Arrow episodes and while I did like what I saw, I never managed to muster up the interest to watch the whole thing. Ah well.

I am still around, luckily, and I hope to be back on a more regular basis as soon as I can. As for things being distressing, nothing too serious luckily, but it at times can be annoying. As for Arrow, well with your backlog probably being almost as big as my own, it is not a big surprise. With the amount of shows and movies on offer at times it is hard to follow everything. Arrow is a great show though, abd I highly recommend it. Thank you for the kind words, and your comment 😊

Good to know you are doing okay. Been missing you as well. Not that I’m one to talk about wandering off for a bit, but still.
Frankly, I’m glad to see a review of this season of Arrow from a non American perspective. There were elements to it I didn’t care for, but over all, I felt it was still a good show, and worth watching. The general consensus among American reviewers, however, was that was the season that ruined Arrow for ever.
When I’m less cynical than most, that’s cause for concern.
Great review, and hope things get back on track for you soon.

Hello my friend 😊 I have been missing talking to you as well. As you may have noticed, I am really behind in reading your posts, but expect the coming sunday to see a lot of likes and comments to suddenly appear again 😀 I hope all is going somewhat better for you. I can’t imagine the things you are going through right now, so I really hope with all my heart, that things are at least just a little bit better.
I have yet to watch the seasons following this one, but I can imagine how that could be thought of this season. It was defintely way darker than all the seasons that came before, and showed a different show. Still I really enjoyed it, and hope it will continue to be as good as this. Thanks for your kind words, and please take care 😊

Looking forward to that myself. 🙂
As for me, things are actually somewhat improved. There is a chance, though it is by no means anything more than a chance, that my girlfriends cancer can be treated. Likely not completely cured, mind you, but the treatment could buy her another ten or more years if it is successful.
Not gonna lie, I’ll take that. She jumped at the chance. Now it’s just a matter of waiting to see.
Back on the subject of Arrow, the most current season, five I think it is, has been, while dark, quite excellent in my mind, so the show does go up in terms of quality from where you are. Got that to look forward to.

Well, I think I have done it, and finally managed to catch up on all of the posts that I have missed. And it was time well spent I can tell you. I am glad to read there is at least a chance that something can be done to at least give her a few more years. I truly hope that will come to pass. I would do exactly the same and take that as well. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and her that this might hopefully be true.
As for Arrow, that is great news. I just love things turning even darker, so if that is the direction where the show is heading to: count me in 😊

You really did. Kinda surprised me when I woke up this morning. In a good way, of course.
As of right now, she’s doing really well, and all the doctors are actually starting to be pretty optimistic. She and I both are trying to remain realistic, as the fight is only just starting.
But when the docs are optimistic, it’s hard not to be a little as well.
Just caught up with the newest episodes of Arrow last night. You have so much to look forward to. Won’t spoil it, but I will tease.
Lexa Doig.

Wow, that is really good news. So glad to read this. Sure, I understand that you try to be realistic as much as you can, but just like you said, it is good that the doctors are at least cautiously optimistic as well. I hope that this will continue …from the bottom of my heart.
As for the tease….Lexa Doig…..OH….MY….GOD 😂😂

Yes. I know. Did you know she was married to Michael Shanks? I didn’t know that until recently.

Actually I did know that. It was on one of the extra’s for the dvd sets of Stargate, so that’s how I knew. They fell in love on the set of the series, which is really kind of cool 😊
